第4任007提摩西·达顿，提摩西·达顿是莎剧演员，威尔斯人，生于1944年3月21日，在接演007角色之前已经有丰富的表演经验，在拍片前必熟读剧本或小说。他的詹姆斯·邦德带有一些沧桑感，尝试表现出邦德人性的一面，演戏十分有深度，而票房成绩也算理想。《杀人执照》一片为邦德添加了敢作敢为的英雄性格，给观众留下深刻印象。因为在《杀人执照》后出现版权争执问题，所以在1990至1994年间没有邦德电影上映。但提摩西·达顿在1994年辞去了邦德的职务，因他不希望因演007而从此被观众“定形”。

邦片后来卷入版权纠纷，1990年至1994年没有邦片出炉。因不想定形也无法超越原有的“邦德”形象，铁摩达顿1994年辞去邦德职务，所以只出任过两次邦德。 良好的 幽默感一直是邦德征服对手和女人的有效武器，但在提摩西·达顿的表演里，邦德特有的幽默感没有了，取而代之的是沉默与刻板。虽然他仍旧像前几任一样，饰演的邦德有着很强的办案能力，是一个敢于挑战邪恶的好特工，但他的暴力使用得似乎多了一点，这个邦德像杀手多过像特工。
